The Work

Transformation, held from the recommendation through the operation.

I lead enterprise transformation for insurers and other financial services institutions. For more than twenty years I have built and led insurance consulting and services practices, and led the programs that changed how carriers operate, from new business through claims, and the finance, HR, and payroll operations behind them. The work spans global multiline carriers and mid-market and mutual carriers alike. The difference is scale, not the problem.

I have owned the P&L as well as the advice: revenue and margin accountability for a financial services portfolio of more than $50M, and a delivery organization of more than 500 people across the United States, Canada, and India. Advisory work ends at the recommendation. Accountability for the operation begins there, and I have held both.

The Idea

An enterprise is an organized set of abilities.

Everything else it manages, its functions, projects, applications, and budgets, is a projection of them. Transformation enters an enterprise from one of two directions, and it holds only when both arrive at the same place.

I

From the business

A strategy, an operating model decision, or a statutory obligation must reach the applications, data, and infrastructure that will carry it.

II

From technology

A mainframe estate, a cloud migration, a data platform, or an AI product must reach the business outcome that justifies the spend.

III

Resolved against ability

The investment becomes durable only when resolved against what the enterprise must be able to do, where cost, value, and decision authority are known.

I engineer that resolution. Where work should live, and who or what should do it, is answered against a defined ability rather than a department or a headcount. That is what lets an operating model be redesigned without losing the business inside it, and it is the foundation AI requires before it can be trusted with any of the work.
